The night of October 17 will go down in history when ACCA, in cooperation with Deloitte, endorsed Chief Financial Officers in Uganda in a variety of categories for the eighth time.
“We are incredibly proud to announce that our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Ms. Jacqueline Kiwanuka, has been honored with the highly esteemed award for outstanding leadership in public sector finance, 2024,” said Jonan Kiiza, UEDCL PRO, adding that UEDCL’s reputation is growing as such commendations come in from reputable firms such as ACCA Uganda.The award recognizes Ms. Jacqueline’s outstanding contributions to our company’s financial stability as well as her long-term impact on the public sector, according to Jonan Said.
The Public Sector Award, a highly sought-after industry award, is granted to financial leaders who display fiscal management expertise, innovative budgeting and planning methodologies, and a dedication to fostering public sector accountability and transparency. The prize honors those who not only succeed in financial acumen but also demonstrate the values of service and honesty that are essential in public administration.Since joining UEDCL in 2022, the CFO has had a significant impact on our financial strategy, ensuring our long-term growth and success. Her unique budgeting technique, along with a constant focus on operational efficiency, has not only saved taxpayer’s money, but also ensured that our resources are allocated to meet the company’s strategic goals.
In addressing the prize category, Mr. Sanjay Rhugani, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, underlined that what distinguishes a CFO is not only technical expertise in finance, but also a forward-thinking attitude to public sector challenges. He also mentioned that they received a big number of nominations this year, indicating that the public is getting more interested in the CFO awards as a result of the transparency shown.

We are excited for what the future holds as we continue to build on our success together.The award comes at a time when the company has acquired five private concessions and has grandiose plans to take over Umeme Limited, the biggest private energy provider, by April 1, 2025. UEDCL will continue to rely on the knowledge of all of its employees as it embarks on the journey to becoming the national utility distributor. Mwesigwa Paul, MD of UEDCL, stated that if all other professions could do the same, his team would be at the top of the list.
